Founded in 1898, the center is housed inside the magnificent Charles Gates Dawes House, a 26-room chateau-style lakeside mansion that is designated as a National Historic Landmark. The home beautifully exhibits the intact, original furnishings and artwork belonging to Charles Gates Dawes—the former U.S. Vice President, World War I general, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient.
